Office Building Daylight Analysis

Istanbul / Turkiye

Technical Performance: Computational Daylight Simulation & Facade Optimization

For this corporate office development in Istanbul, our scope was strictly focused on High-Performance Daylight Engineering. Moving beyond qualitative design, we conducted a rigorous quantitative analysis to evaluate the building’s interaction with the solar cycle. By utilizing advanced Radiance-based simulation engines, we mapped the interior illuminance levels across the floor plate to ensure compliance with international sustainability standards. Our primary objective was to achieve an optimal balance between maximum natural light penetration and the mitigation of Solar Heat Gain (SHG), transforming the building envelope into a high-efficiency environmental filter.

The technical core of the analysis relied on climate-based daylight modeling (CBDM) to calculate Spatial Daylight Autonomy (sDA) and Annual Sunlight Exposure (ASE). These metrics allowed us to identify areas of potential glare and thermal discomfort, leading to a strategic Facade Optimization process. We collaborated with the architectural team to refine glazing specifications and solar shading geometries, ensuring a uniform distribution of natural light while reducing the building’s cooling load and reliance on artificial lighting. This evidence-based consultancy ensures a workspace that prioritizes occupant circadian health and operational energy efficiency, positioning daylight as a measurable driver of architectural performance.
